28
To grow in self-control, in patience, in equanimity, is to grow in strength and power; and you can only thus grow by focusing your consciousness upon a principle.
29
Reverie is a loose dreaming into which a man falls; meditation is a strong, purposeful thinking into which a man rises.
34
Every man's first duty is, to improve, to educate, and elevate himself--helping forward his brethren at the same time by all reasonable methods.

39
Don't chase people who don't value you. Don't stay at places where you feel more exhausted than excited. Don't expect respect from someone who is never willing to meet you halfway. If they can't honor your presence, they deserve your absence.

40
If you made wrong choice and realized the mistake much later, it's okay. Even if it changed course of your life drastically, it's still okay. You did what you felt was best. You have already suffered a lot due to that. Worrying is a waste of time. Forgive yourself.

41
Most of your fears are your mind going on overthinking overdrive. Life isn't as bad as your thoughts make it to be. Control thoughts and filter negativity. Tell yourself it's all fine. Keep the mind occupied with pursuing what you enjoy. Be kind to someone. Trust your power.

42
Some people will like you and some won't. And it's ok. You don't like many people either. You aren't meant to be everyone's cup of tea. Don't chase. Teach people to treat you right. Choose those who see the value your presence brings. Others don't matter.

43
You are important. Your existence has a reason. You deserve to be respected. You aren't meant to be an afterthought. Don't chase those who make you shrink. Replace them with those who realise that your presence is a reward and your energy is a blessing.

44
It is never wrong to do the right thing.
TraditionaltraditionalCommon saying
45
It is the act of an ill-instructed man to blame others for his own bad condition; it is the act of one who has begun to be instructed, to lay the blame on himself; and of one whose instruction is completed, neither to blame another, nor himself.

The fifth maxim is the source of the modern slogan it is not what happens to you but how you react to it, which translates nothing Epictetus wrote and has no attested author. The paraphrase stops halfway. Epictetus opens by saying men are disturbed by their opinions about things rather than by the things, but he ends here -- taking the blame yourself is only the middle stage, and the finished man blames nobody at all.

46
I will not follow where the path may lead, but I will go where there is no path, and I will leave a trail.

Wrongly attributed

Universally attributed to Emerson, and it is in none of his essays, journals or letters. It is Muriel Strode, an American writer almost nobody has heard of, in the August 1903 issue of The Open Court. The rewriting is the interesting part: Strode wrote a vow in the first person about herself, and the version that circulates has been turned into an instruction issued to somebody else. Do not go where the path may lead is not what she said. I will not follow is.

47
If you’re going to do a job, do it right.

Wording taken from a viewer's transcription of the video, not from a published transcript — we searched and found none: Cal Maritime's own newsroom carries only a pre-event announcement, which is where the 22 April 2017 date comes from. The words are Rigsby's father's, recounted by Rigsby, so the attribution here is to the speech rather than to either man directly.

48
There is no benefit in seeking revenge. It's like glueing yourself to a situation that reminds you of deep pain and blocks your progress towards something better. If they hurt you, leave them to karma. Don't give them room in your mind any further. Focus on healing and moving on.

49
Think good thoughts. Protect your mind. What your mind consumes shapes your thoughts. Your thoughts lead your actions. Your actions change your life for better or worse. Get rid of what drains you. Embrace what pushes you towards your dream life.

50
True power is in ability to stay calm when someone tries to trigger you. If their actions and words don't bother you, they lose any power they want to hold over you. Stay unshakeable. Your indifference is the message they need.
