If you want to change the world, measure a person by the size of their heart, not the size of their flippers.
SEAL training was a great equalizer. Nothing mattered but your will to succeed. Not your color, not your ethnic background, not your education and not your social status.
The power of one person — Washington, Lincoln, King, Mandela and even a young girl from Pakistan, Malala — one person can change the world by giving people hope.
The men you see spending most of their time looking for higher and more lucrative positions are, nine times out of ten, men who have made worthless failures in other places.

Nothing comes unbidden; where the shadow is, there also is the substance.
The power which resides in him is new in nature, and none but he knows what that is which he can do, nor does he know until he has tried.
Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity. Pride is the burden of a foolish person.
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

This is Will Durant, not Aristotle, and Durant is not translating -- he is summarising the Nicomachean Ethics in his own words and marking the difference by dropping the quotation marks he uses on either side of it. The nearest thing in Aristotle is that virtues are formed in a man by his doing the actions, which Durant does put in quotation marks in the same sentence. The memorable half is the half Durant wrote. It usually circulates with a therefore inserted and the excellence turned into a moral instruction, neither of which is in the book.
God helps them that help themselves, as Poor Richard says.

Quoted constantly as scripture. It is nowhere in the Bible, which says something close to the opposite in several places. Franklin printed it in Poor Richard's Almanack and gathered it here in 1758, but he did not coin it either: he presents it as an existing proverb, and versions of it appear in Algernon Sidney's Discourses in 1698 and, earlier still, in Aesop.
I won't have a problem with you if you aim high and miss, but I will have a real problem if you aim low and hit.

If you have a dream that lights up your soul, chase it. Believe that you are strong enough to move mountains. Believe that in the moments of uncertainty, you will figure out a way to move forward. Things work out for those who believe in themselves.

If you made wrong choice and realized the mistake much later, it's okay. Even if it changed course of your life drastically, it's still okay. You did what you felt was best. You have already suffered a lot due to that. Worrying is a waste of time. Forgive yourself.

It is liberating to know you are strong enough to handle the challenges of life. It is calming to know that you will bounce back if things don't work out the way you desire. No defeat defines you. No failure is final. What's meant for you will choose you.

To compare yourself against others only exhausted and stresses you. You are growing at your pace. Your goals are different from others. Your circumstances are unique. Your timeline is only yours. Focus on improving yourself each day, no matter what's happening around you.

You are important. Your existence has a reason. You deserve to be respected. You aren't meant to be an afterthought. Don't chase those who make you shrink. Replace them with those who realise that your presence is a reward and your energy is a blessing.

Character, says Novalis, in one of his questionable aphorisms, character is destiny. But not the whole of our destiny.
Wrongly attributed
Character is destiny is routinely credited to Heraclitus, on the strength of a fragment usually given as a man's character is his fate. That translation is itself contested, and the English aphorism does not come from it: it comes from Novalis, and reached English readers through George Eliot, who quotes him here in 1860 and immediately qualifies it. The half everyone drops is the half Eliot wrote.
