The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Whatsoever thwarts, or puts me out of my way, brings death into my mind.
As death, therefore, is hanging over our head every hour, how can a man ever be unshaken in soul if he fears it?
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
The disturbers of our happiness, in this world, are our desires, our griefs, and our fears; and to all these, the consideration of mortality is a certain and adequate remedy.
Perhaps the best cure for the fear of death is to reflect that life has a beginning as well as an end.
In proportion as the years both lessen and shorten, I set more count upon their periods, and would fain lay my ineffectual finger upon the spoke of the great wheel.
